The history of Martin Burn Limited goes back to the 1800's with the formation of two civil engineering companies — Martin & Co. in 1890 and Burn & Co. in 1809.
Martin & Co. has been credited with developing some of the most iconic and historic buildings of the city like the Esplanade Mansion, Standard Chartered Building, South Eastern Railway Headquarters, Tipu Sultan Mosque, and the Patna Secretariat Building. It was also awarded the contract of building the Victoria Memorial in 1904.
Burn & Co. was founded in 1809 and had the experience of building many important structures in Calcutta like St. Andrew's Church (1818), St. Xaviers' College (1934-40), Oriental Seminary, Belur Math, and Assembly House.
Martin Burn Limited was formed as a result of amalgamation of Martin & Co. and Burn & Co. in 1946. The Company has since developed modern residential complexes like Shreeram Nagar, Shreeram Gardens; and commercial & retail spaces including Shreeram Arcade, and S.S. Hogg Market — Phase II.
The Company has also been awarded several Civil Engineering contracts for renovation projects by companies like The Oberoi Group, Hotel Hindusthan International, Asutosh College, Balmer Lawrie and Dabur. It has also built the Club House at the Eden Gardens.
